The First Fool

Do you remember the days immediately following the attacks of September 11, 2001? Do you remember the headline in the French newspaper, "WE ARE ALL AMERICANS NOW"? Do you remember the goodwill that was sent out to us from all over the world? Do you remember how even some of our traditional enemies, Libya's Qaddafi for instance, condemned the attacks? Do you remember all of that? I sure do! I also can't forget that it was all squandered by a half-witted crackpot named, George W. Bush. And when the next attack happens - and it's going to happen; You can take that to the bank - the rest of the world, remembering our disastrous, illegal invasion of Iraq (Earth to America: Your president is a war criminal) will look at us and ask, "What did you expect"?

Before I set myself up for an investigation, let me reassure the NSA, FBI and the Department of Homeland Security that the reason I'm absolutely certain of another catastrophic attack is not because I'm involved in any kind of a plot against our once-great nation (Heavens to Betsy, I'm not) It is because the First Fool, incurious George, has so depleted our national treasure and, by extension, our national security, that another attack is all but inevitable. Anyone not smart enough to figure that out (our commander-in-chief, for example) shouldn't be in a position of any import, let alone sitting in the oval office.

This country - really, the world - cannot afford another two years and seven months of this nightmare of an administration. Many republicans, not to mention almost all democrats, are urging the president to bring in an outsider, a David Gergen type - Hell, why not David Gergen, himself? - to come in and clean up the mess and set things on a steady course much in the same way Reagan and Clinton did in their second terms when they hired - of all people - David Gergen! Here's a nasty little fact for you to munch on, people: That won't happen. Trust me on this one: That's never going to happen! Why? It's very simple. The serious felonies that have been committed by this criminal administration preclude the possibility of any outside broker coming in and having an unobstructed look into the "business as usual" style of the Bush Mob. That ain't never gonna happen, baby!

We've got to take our country back from these maniacal fools. The main obstacle before us the upcoming primary season. The congress and the senate are also mired in corruption and need to be completely overhauled and that includes the minority party! Any democrat who was stupid enough to give this twisted little psychopath in the White House the power to wage war without the constitutionally mandated congressional approval, needs to be swept away onto history's ash heap. And yes, that includes the senator from New York. The very fact that Hillary Clinton is today the odds-on favorite to win the democratic nomination in 2008 is tangible evidence that the party of Franklin Delano Roosevelt has sunk into the ideological sewer.

The 2006 mid-term elections are less than five months away. Yeah, I know it seems like an eternity but we've got to hang in there and wait these treacherous bastards out. Help is on the way....I hope.

Pray for peace.

Tom, I remember all too well the French newspaper headlines. My partner and I were having lunch in a cafe in Angers, France on the afternoon of 9/11 when the news began to break.

Our waiter came over and excitedly began to pantomime an airplane crashing into something. His previously passable English deserted him in his panic so it took a few moments for him to be able to communicate to us that a plane had crashed into one of the Twin Towers. As soon as he heard the news on the kitchen radio he came to tell us, because he knew I was an American.

As the events unfolded over the afternoon and evening, the outpouring of French solidarity with America was breathtaking. If any of them were thinking what I was thinking - that we brought this on ourselves - they left that opinion unsaid.

When shortly afterwards I learned how you could no longer buy french fries, but you could have all the freedom fries you wanted... I knew for certain that Bush was taking America into a very dark place indeed. And I cried.

My tears have all dried up now. I am numb.

Hillary Clinton would be a mistake. She might be able to get votes 'around her bubble of believers', but those people don't venture out far enough to see the full picture.

I am looking for that smart underdog, who is strong and can take the heat without getting 'fried'. I just don't see that person yet who can capture both parties and others, which they got to do.

The right can capture this again, if the left don't get out there and really stand up, instead of just acting like they are on a tight rope ready to fall.
