Something to think about on the Fourth of July


"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness."

Just a thought....

Let's do it! If you give the people security, you can take away their freedom. I'm an insecure person, so I'm inclined to take my freedom back.

I again carefully read the entire Declaration yesterday morning, and was chilled at how familiar their situation then is to ours now, in almost all the particulars.

Dear Tom,

I still believe in the American people whose bravery, righteousness and spirit of self sacrifice enabled a rag tag army of colonialists to defeat the most powerful military force in the world over two hundred years ago.

Do you remember the days just after 9/11? As I went out on routine errands people everywhere made eye contact and were more helpful and courteous than usual. Drivers gave the right of way to others and there was no cursing or impatience with anyone else. People out with others walked closer together and I saw more couples of all ages holding hands. Everyone walked more erect with chins up. There was a spirit of strength and unity such as I have never experienced.

I have no doubt that if terrorists had continued to attack us on our own soil that Americans would have responded with bravery and resourcefulness.

Unfortunately, Bush and his cronies used that moment to hijack the American spirit with lies and manipulations to garner support for a war in Iraq. But the same spirit in Americans that longs for justice will demand it from these perpetrators once their lies are exposed to the sunlight. That is why impeachment is necessary and why we must do it!

Not to be unpatriotic I watched "Letters for Iwo Jima" because it was raining in Philly last night -On our Independence day where they signed that incredible document you display and cite.

Maybe we should re-name it interdependence day?

Anyway-I still love America- a once great nation- and the eloquence of our declaration.

I am thrilled you are a descendant of on one of the signers.

He certainly would be proud to know that.

On the 4th of July 2007 we should have all paused to reflect on the greatest document since Magna Carta,I am not a Constitutional scholar nor a Carta scholar but ours might exceed it.
While we are thinking over our Constitution, we should also take a long hard look at how everybody sworn to uphold it are doing everything in their power to destroy the freedoms and dignities it grants us from the President, Vice (accent on Vice as in crooked as a barrel of snakes)president, the Cabinet members, the Senate and House Of Representatives, the Judiaciary from the Supremes down to the lowest levels of local government.
For a while after Bush stole the office, I thought next to the Nazis,this was the worst bunch in history.
I now rank them at the top of the heap.
Hitler's mania was born of his perceived injustices done his country at the peace table at the end of WW2.He cared not for power itself but for lebensraum and regaining the lost territory.
Hitler lived simply and and cared not for personal gain.
On the other hand everything this cabal of crooks liars and theives have done even before they took office has been to enrich themselves by any means.

I guess I'm just so jaded anymore that all I can think of is I agree with the sentiments in the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights, but when I look at who designed and signed it, all I see is a group of rich white men.

Let's take back our power as common people, and start over again...
