Bob Betrayed by Bastards

"We did it!"

-Rick Santurum

Yeah you did it alright, Rick. And to think that this moron came fairly close to receiving the Republican nomination last summer. What does that tell you about the intellectual state of that party? Seriously.

The one-time Pennsylvania senator was positively beside himself with unrestrained giddiness when he tweeted  that message to his half-witted clientele. After all, the senate had just defeated the ratification of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities treaty, which is designed to compel the rest of the planet earth to treat their disabled citizens as we do here in the Unites States by treating them with dignity and ensuring that they be given access to public accommodations. That was all too much for most of Republicans to bear. Ironically, although the vote was 61 to 38 in favor, it was five votes short of the two/thirds majority required for passage.

By the way, did you hear about Rick Santorum's new job? He's now a columnist for World Net Daily, a white supremacist website. Nice work if you can get it.

Bobby, Ye Hardly Knew Them!

And there was good ol' Bob Dole, his body wracked by age and ancient wounds received during the second world war, wheeled onto the floor of the senate by his wife, Elizabeth. He was there as a sort of moral beacon, wordlessly reminding his former colleagues of his very real disabilities. It was he, more than anyone else, who was responsible for the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act back in the nineties. I'm sure he believed that his presence could persuade even the yahoos and jackasses who have hijacked his party to do the right thing.  It was wishful thinking on his part.

It is obvious that the former Kansas senator is not long for this world. If he even lives to see it, he will turn ninety-years-old next July 22. It's a shame that on what will undoubtedly be the last time he sets foot in that chamber he should witness the defeat of a measure that is so close to his heart. It really was a sad thing to see. My heart goes out to Senator Dole.

The GOP is justifying their defeat of this humane treaty in quite humorous ways. It's an attempt by the United Nations to force their wicked will on the good citizens of this beloved land of ours, they're telling us. Besides, as every red-blooded American knows, The UN is pure evil - EVIL, I TELL YOU!!! Others are trying to get us to swallow the notion that it somehow "undermines US sovereignty". Exactly how they are unable to explain. It really is a funny and amusing thing to behold. It's damned-near touching.

Screw the Cripples

Although I've come to expect the worst from these assholes, this latest one surprised even me. It is evidence that that party is devolving even further by the day. Who knows where they might be in five or six years? It's an unsettling speculation to say the least. Still we might console ourselves by the thought that they do indeed provide us with scads of unintentional comedy; roses plucked from a field of manure. Jon Stewart's writers have the easiest job in the world. Come to think about it, so do I.

As they slide further into irrelevance, the "party of Abraham Lincoln" will become more desperate. They know goddamned-good-and-well that they can no longer rely on the fears and loathings of middle-aged white guys with beer bellies to put them over the top on any given election day.

Already an overt scheme is in the works to rig the electoral college in their favor. They now want to give the more populated counties of America more electoral votes than the less populated ones. Apparently they think that this will work out to their advantage in the "purple" states. Perhaps it will. But what these jackasses fail to understand is that for this little plan to work, it would require a constitutional amendment if it is to be made the law of the land. Jolly good luck with that one.

 Mean and Stupid

Don't expect them to do the bidding of their constituents. Don't expect them to look out for the interests of the poor, the elderly and the middle class. Don't expect them not to be lulled to sleep by the sweet smell of corporate cash. Don't expect them to be statesmen (I'm sorry, I meant "statespersons"). It would be  sheer folly to expect any of that from these people. They're not looking out for your interests. Not at all. As Mr. Zappa once said:

They're just looking out for Number One
And Number One ain't you
You ain't even Number Two

This is the way it has always been - not only for the Republicans but far too many Democrats to count (Are you listening Chuck Schumer?) The only difference between now and thirty years ago is that they don't even attempt to hide the corruption any longer. But the politicians don't appear to be too worried - and why should they be? They know full well that the masses have been dumbed-down to the point of utter pathos. Thank you, Fox Noise.

Although I didn't agree with a lot of his policies, I always liked Bob Dole. On his worst days he always seemed pretty sensible and smart. You know what I'm talking about: the type of Republican that doesn't even exist anymore. Voting against him as I did in 1996 did not fill me with the vengeful glee that I experienced when I voted against Reagan, Mitt Romney (remember him?) or the two Bushes. It must break the poor bugger's heart to see what has become of his party. It almost breaks mine.

SUGGESTED READING:

Winchell - Gossip, Power and the Culture of Celebrity
by Neal Gabler

Walter Winchell was the most famous - and feared - columnist of his day. For at least a quarter-of-a-century his column was by far the most widely read in America. His favor was sought by politicians, entertainers and foreign dignitaries alike. He could - and did - ruin many lives, despite having more than a few skeletons in his own closet. And yet when he died in February of 1972, the only person to show up at his funeral was the estranged daughter he had not spoken to in years. This excellent biography chronicals the meteoric rise and devastating fall of this complete American original. It should be a cautionary tale to the Sean Hannitys and the Rush Limbaughs of this world. I doubt that they'll read it, though. Call it a silly hunch on my part.

And although he has never lacked medical care, he led a party for many years that was "dying" to take it away from others.

Somehow I feel that what he witnessed that day was just.

I only wish that it had stuck in throats of all the others as much.

And yet, he was at least partiallly responsible for the Americans With Disabilities Act. Defeating the ratification of that treaty was not "just" in any way.

I support DD's desire to remove conservatives and the GOP from our nation. One party rule is the way for prosperity and peace. I suggest that since all income is the governments that we raise tax rates on all of us like Dr. Howard Dean just asked for.
How about a fair flat tax rate of 75% for all? After all of increasing taxes back to Clinton levels produced a grat economy, think how great we will be at 75%!

For Bob's sake we must destroy theGOP.

Really? This is such a non-issue. There are those, typically in the conservative camp, who tend to hold a low view of the need for heavy involvement in the UN in general (and a high view for the US as a sovereign nation). I personally do. So, for a Senator of that persuasion, the vote was likely based on that – nothing to do with people with disabilities or with Bob Dole (who hails from my great state). America leads the world in this area – which is why the UN basically copied ADA. For Dole to posture himself as some sort of poster boy (if that’s what he was indeed doing) is embarrassing. And how quickly folks forget that he wasn’t exactly warm, fuzzy bunny in his heyday. He wouldn’t have allowed his conscience on an issue to be swayed by theatrics. To use this mundane Senate activity as a launching point to discuss the demise of the Republican party? Careful, Tom, you’re going to pull a muscle stretching like that…

The main thing that irks me is that THIS is what they are working on up there?! Something about Nero and a fiddle…

The thinking of the GOP constantly mystifies me. Just when you think they can not become any more repugnant, they do so. It is amazing how they blabber on about our being a christian nation and then proceed to act in a most unchristian way.

Along these same lines, our IL senator Mark Kirk will be returning in Jan after being out almost a year (with salary and benefits) as the result of a stroke. While he has my sympathy for his health problems (having a stroke is not anything I would wish on my worst enemy), it will be interesting to see if he works to see that the rest of us have access to "the greatest health care in the world" which is what he has.

While I see your point, and do have empathy for all people, I do not believe that the UN is a valid method of making anything positive come about for any people across the planet. It is an organization of politicians. All that politicians and the institutionalized corpus governments purported to be united there represent is profits for the rich. That is what governments are about, and the UN is nothing more than a step toward a one government to enrich the already obscenely rich.

The only way for life and condition to be addressed and honored is by empowering local communities to make their own decisions on the matter. To give universal dictate to globalized, unreachable political institutions is folly. Every time, using history as a guide, the programs touted as world saving have failed and the monies collected have lined the pockets of everyone but the people that need it.

All pyramid systems of governance are the exact opposite of what people need. Think about the Federal racket if you will. It is a government operating on a single intent - profit for the in crowd. The in crowd will do anything to steal from the rest, and are more than happy to murder anyone by the millions if necessary to reach their margins, disabled notwithstanding. They create arenas of fear, then mix in situations of dire circumstance, followed up by programs that need massive amounts of cash to finance the 'solution'. I cannot recall one time that process has actually worked in the short term, not to mention perpetually.

Governments are purposely morphed into unreachable castles on the hill, wherein the self-proclaimed elite demand ever greater funding to 'protect' the people from developed circumstances. It is the oldest profession. Our governments are run by the highest level of gold digging whores, and the UN sits atop that pyramid.

The combination of the Democrat party and their Pay Masters, the Mob controlled Public unions are the world's largest criminal organization!

I cant understand why we wouldn't want the UN to control the rules of our country! Look at all the unfairness in the world that would be stopped if we turned over our being governed from the elected to the UN.

Why, to do so would end global warming, wars, fear of radical Christianity and its hate filled churches, replacing them with peace loving tolerant Islam, and the rights of women and gays would be improved to UN levels. Under the UN rules, gun violence would be ended, replaced by easier to use, low tech machete violence. It might be messy, but it would be very equal.

This is what you are worried about Tom? When the news reports an illegal alien living here in the open for 8 years just got a kidney transplant free, instead of being sent home to Mexico? And complains on how long it took to get the transplant! While at the same time our U.S. Customs and Border Protection seized 35000 rubber ducks from entering our shores because they contained the chemical phthalate in excess of the limit which MAY be harmful to children.
Right, what we need is more rules and regulations but now we need them from the UN.

The democratic party today is probably as poorly schooled in economics and finance as any political party any place in the world today, perhaps ever in the history of the world. They don't have a plan and I get tired of hearing about their plan. They have a mantra, but they don't have a plan.

They don't understand, for example, if you're going to have growth in the private sector, you have to have investment by risk takers. I'm 72 years old. I'm not going to take any risks. Most people my age, we want dividends, we want security, we want stock, blue chip stocke and dividends and bonds.

The venture capitalists provide the risk-- these are exactly the people the democrats think are somehow undeserving people that should have their money taken away so you can build government when, in fact, the biggest problem we have overall comprehensively is this government is too much of a burden on the big economy. Poor old president obama, he actually believes that more government is always a better thing. He simply doesn't understand the way the economy works and doesn't show any desire to learn.

Government controlled economy is his goal.
Reason? 73% of the new jobs created in the last 5 months were in government. And since DD is a government employee he of course supports its growth.
Reason? To pay for government employees, taxes have to go up. DD has a vested interest in painting anyone who threatens his gravy train as Nazis, Right Wing crazy's, etc.
But DD has yet to answer this question on any this blog, where are you going to get your wages when there is nothing and nobody left to tax? Google recent events in Cuba and Greece regarding taxes for our future. But it's ok with DD and his followers cause the big problem in America TODAY is our Senate didn't vote the way the UN wanted them to. Cry me a river.

These Conservatives really know how to throw the bullshit around! They say raising the taxes on the rich from 35% to 39% is going to make them all go bankrupt. They were rich when Clinton was President at that rate and now they are too rich for the good of the middle class. They use their money to buy oil futures and speculate in food and commodities, driving up prices for us and them getting richer for it.

When tax rates were from 50 to 90% they invested their money in R&D, infrastructure and factories to lessen the taxes on them. This helped create the middle class after WW2. At the same time the unions were growing in strength leading to the pinnacle of the middle class. When 60% of all workers belonged to a union, wages were at there highest. Now unions are at 7% and we work for peanuts with no benefits.

The Bush tax cuts are only a 4% reduction, but the rich saved 4 Trillion dollars in 12 years. It is time raise their taxes.

You are right, this is the fault of those damned conservatives who are fighting to keep taxes low for the richest 1% or is it 2% of us(it keeps changing)! If they would just let us return to the tax rates of 1952 where the top rate was 90% none of the poor would be poor any longer. From now on I blame all riots for govt supplied food, cell phones, health care, housing, etc on the rich...It's all their fault, them and the Reich Wing buddies like FOX, and Limbaugh and Beck.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Columbus Police sprayed Mace on several people in a crowd that had gathered to sign up for a list to get subsidized housing at a northwest Columbus apartment complex.

Police said the crowd started to gather Friday night for the Saturday morning event at The Heritage apartment complex on Gatewood Road near Sunbury Road in northeast Columbus.

Authorities said that its highest number, the crowd reached 2,000 people.

Residents in the area called police overnight and complained about the noise and number of cars in the neighborhood.

According to police, a melee broke out when the manager of the complex started to set up for the event just before 7 a.m. Saturday morning.

Several individuals were sprayed with Mace by police and treated at the scene by emergency crews.

This is not the America we want. People who are waiting for free stuff should not be subject to mace, it's not their fault they have no money, its the riches fault.

After all the rich didn't make it on their own, the poor were the ones who lost out while the rich stole from them by not paying higher taxes.

Since when are these positions not liberal? Since when were they not worth while?

Increase taxes on the rich.
Provide for the poor with govt money taxed from the rich.
We have to pay for the two wars by increasing taxes.
(3 wars if you count the War on Poverty, oops 4 wars, forgot the War on Drugs).
Govt can not afford to give their up their money with tax cuts.
The GOP/Rich are greedy and white.
The GOP hates the poor.
The rich hate the poor and want them to stay poor.
Every dollar a rich person has, is one that was taken from a poor person.
Conservatives are racists.
The Tea Party is made up of old white racists.
Govt is trustworthy, private business is not.
Govt cares for us, business does not (a position of Alan Colmes)
Unions must be allowed to expand into every labor market, no restrictions.
The govt is better at handling my health care choices than I am.
Universal Healthcare will save money and services will improve.
Fox News Network is evil, MSNBC is balanced.
America will be a much better place when there is no opposition to liberalism.
