Black and Tan Fantasies

The Tan Man
It's quite interesting and hardly surprising. It is now comically apparent that there are no depths to which the loony right wing won't sink in order to defame this president. What they lack in intellect they more than make up for in sheer gall. I'm referring to what I'll call "Tan Gate".  You would have thought that the president had goose-stepped into the White House press room donning an SS uniform with a swastika arm band. But it wasn't just the extremists who joined in the fun. Some "serious" journalists had to take a stand, like the reporter from Time Magazine (I'll be merciful and omit his name) who tweeted, "I'm not sure that tan suits him". Remember, this was at a session where Obama was briefing the press on a major crisis occurring in the Middle East. The whole affair was touchingly infantile.

I've done a smidgeon of research this morning and I've been able to find images of every president going all the way back to Franklin Roosevelt dressed to the nines in a tan suit. Apparently Herbert Hoover never wore one - but J. Edgar did - often. As did their sainted Ronald Reagan. Tan wasn't in vogue when Abraham Lincoln was living in the Executive Mansion, but I think that the shade would have suited him quite well had that been the case. I guess there must be something ominously threatening about a black guy in tan. We should commission an expert in human behavior to look into all of this.

Jack in Tan
This reminds me of all of the fuss that has been made over Barack Obama's use of the teleprompter. Forget the fact that every president since Eisenhower has used them; ignore the ample evidence that Reagan would have been rendered mute without them; Obama seems to be the only president in the history of this diseased country that has abused his teleprompter privileges. It's time to impeach the son-of-a-bitch. Maybe it's a blessing for Obama that comedian-turned-fashion-critic, Joan Rivers, didn't live to see this assault on the good people of this wardrobe-conscious nation. She most certainly would have put that uppity commie bastard in his place.

But seriously, folks....Did you ever get the feeling that you were living in a really dark satirical novel? That's sort of the way I'm feeling this morning. Life is beautiful.

Shameful Teddy
FUN FACT: When Theodore Roosevelt and his Rough Riders charged up San Juan Hill in 1898, their uniform was roughly the same color of the suit Barack Obama is being criticized for wearing today. Ain't that a hoot? At the time (and this may shock some people) not a word of criticism was made about it - nary a freakin' peep! So what, I ask you, is the big deal here?

The historians of a century from now are gonna have a rib-tickling blast looking into the utter stupidity that this president found himself up against during his two terms of office. Why are so many people in such a snit about the color of a suit? Where are their priorities? What the hell is the matter with them? Does anyone have an idea? Is there a doctor in the house?

If anyone reading this has access to the Obama White House I've got a dandy idea. Since he is going to send these freaks into spastic apoplexy no matter what he does, no matter what he says - no matter what he wears - at the next press briefing have the prez come out wearing the gaudiest, powder-blue leisure suit he can find - with bell-bottoms and a collar so wide that the tips of it reach to his shoulder blades. I mean, if these people are going to get angry anyway, give the assholes something to get angry about!
`
FOR THE RECORD: I have three suits. One of them is tan. I'm a good American. HONEST I AM!

Some day Barack Obama is going to sit down and write the memoirs of his eight-year stint as president of the United States. When that day comes I have a great subtitle for the book: "Damned if I Did, Damned if I Didn't". This poor guy never had a "loyal opposition" with an honest disagreement with his policies and programs. Since the day he took the oath of office on January 20, 2009, he has had to contend with a confederacy of dunces and lunatics, hellbent on sabotaging his every move regardless of the national well being.

There's something seriously wrong with this picture.

AFTERTHOUGHT:

I had the chance to meet Joan Rivers once. The year was 1985, and I was working a metal restoration gig outside of a shop directly across from the Algonquin Hotel in New York City. She was curious about my job and we engaged in a conversation that lasted a few minutes. This may astound some of you, but she seemed an absolutely kind and lovely woman. It's a memory I've cherished ever since. God rest her soul.

SUGGESTED LISTENING:

Grand news for all of you Beatle people out there in Pepperland: Their entire catalog has been released today on vinyl via the lost and lamented art of mono mixing. When these incredible records were made a half century ago, the lads themselves would only sit in on the mono mixing sessions, leaving the stereo production to the EMI engineers. At the time, stereo was the exclusive hobby of a relative handful of hi fi enthusiasts. Not many people had stereophonic equipment in the mid-nineteen-sixties. Although most of us prefer the stereo mixes, these recordings offer something different that should be experienced by the discerning fan of the Fabs. No-less an expert than John Lennon once proclaimed: "You haven't heard Sgt. Pepper until you've heard it in mono." That's good enough for me.

These recordings are The Beatles as they wanted the world to hear them. Here is a link to listen to a few samples:

President Obama hosted "a private dinner with a group of foreign policy experts," the White House announced last night. Among them: Sandy Berger, who was caught stealing and destroying classified documents that related to President Clinton's record on terrorism issues.

The way I see it, the fact that Obama is black has opened up the eyes of many to the fact that he is a multinationalist puppet. There may be some racism behind this, but the observation is nonetheless true. Hence the focus on the teleprompter, birth certificate, and suit color. He is guilty of the same crimes as every President since Roosevelt. The blackness won over liberals too much, and turned off conservatives...too much.
Fact is no one loses their birth certificate for three years who can get to be President. So, although I am convinced he was born in Hawaii because of the newspaper evidence, he is still a scam artist for playing that thing up. He was schooled overseas, and is a multinationalist. Former presidents with CIA and Skull and Bones backgrounds were no better. But the racism of his opponents does not cover his misdeeds. Obama is enacting a technetronic program, and is a huge fan of Zbigniew Brzezinski--a total Nazi psychopath. He said so himself. Look it up.

Personally I could care less what color suit the president wears. At least when he's wearing a suit, he's not on a wealthy white man's golf course. There are many more issues involving him that are much more pressing. Many have been debated from both sides on this blog.

What is amazing to me is that a liberal (Tom) would ignore other issues and focus on this one in an attempt to show, to prove, to do what?

Recent disclosures by some of the combatants about the night of the Benghazi attack remind us that almost everything Jay Carney, Susan Rice, Hillary Clinton, and President Obama swore in the aftermath of the debacle was knowingly false.

A video did not cause the attack. The rioting was not spontaneous. A video-maker, an American resident, was soon jailed, while one of the suspected killers was giving taped interviews at a coffee house in Benghazi.

There were ways of securing the consulate and the annex that were not explored, both before and during the assault.

Talking points were altered.

The catalyst for untruth was reelection worries by an administration that believes its exalted ends of social justice allow any means necessary for reaching them.

Has anything the administration said about pulling our troops out of Iraq proven true?

Was it really the Iraqis’ fault or George Bush’s?

Was our leaving proof that Iraq might be one of the administration’s “great achievements”?

Was the Iraq that we left without any peacekeepers really “stable”?

On more than ten occasions the president bragged on the campaign trail that he alone had ended American involvement in Iraq.

When Iraq predictably blew up after our departure, he snarled to reporters that he was angry that anyone would dare accuse him alone of being responsible for our precipitate departure.

Costs, keeping our doctors and existing plans, the effect on the deficit, the website?

Had the president in 2008 outlined honestly the ACA’s provisions, he would never have gotten elected, or had he by 2012 fully implemented them, he would never have gotten reelected.

Lying about Obamacare and demonizing any who objected were smart politics, but the president and his party will never regain the trust of those whose premiums spiked, who lost their coverage and their doctors, and who still do not understand what exactly Obamacare is.

Sometimes there are lies by omission.

The administration is simply incapable of uttering the phrases “radical Islam” or “Islamic terrorism,” and that fact requires all sorts of lying by omission about who exactly is killing Americans and why.

So we are serially told that the Muslim Brotherhood is largely secular, that workplace violence caused Fort Hood, that jihad is largely a personal journey, that the idea of terrorists creating a caliphate is absurd, and all the other euphemisms necessary to hide the apparently unpleasant truth of killing by radical Islamists.

Tom, you have had many posts on race and Obama's color. The point you are missing is that the real distinction is the difference between rich and poor - or maybe more accurately the really rich and everyone else.

There are many mechanisms that promote hatred. Many of these are promoted throughout society to direct attention away from this primary distinction in our society. The worst aspect of this diversion is that the plutocracy is doing such a shitty job of controlling all of the wealth and resources. If you understand the climate change issue and its significance and the GMO issue and, perhaps to a lesser extent(if you can believe that), the nuclear issue, you know what I am talking about.

As for me, I don't care what color the president is. At this point, it is pretty clear that Oboma represents what you might call the whitest guys in the world and has done absolutely nothing for me - if you insist on having at least a slightly racial reference, call him 'Brother Bush'.

Think of any past president who you think was horrible; Carter, Nixon, LBJ or even Andrew Johnson.

Any and all of them taken together did not pose the threat to this country that Barry presents.

I pray we survive as a relatively free country and replace him with someone who will reverse the utter disastrous impact that is Obama.

Here is your most recent post,
"ANd I didn't say they WERE Nazis I said they worked with Nazis." (So did FDR before WWII)

I'll let you draw your own conclusions on what your point is, because your facts lack any cognitive substance.

Dave,
Isn't stirring "up hate, racism and fear-mongering" how Democrats get out their base and how liberals establish their power base?
Of course not, liberals only want what THEY think is best for America, as long as they get the power.

And how do you figure Harley "handed me my hat"? I answered his questions logically and honestly, and he came back with nonsense like "MNorality is absolute" which it isn't. It's completely subjective as s no two people have the same sense of morality, AND a "god" is not neccessary for a person to be "moral" whatever ones definition of it is.

"It's completely subjective as s no two people have the same sense of morality"

Is that an absolute truth claim?

Mozart, I warn you... relativism will work you into a logical corner EVERY time. You are making no sense.

If what you say is true, then ANY position (barring nothing) can be seen as a valid moral position. It blows my mind you cannot see this.

More stunning is the hubris with which you parade your nonsense.

At 9:31 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

So as not to be mean-spirited (and at the risk of eliciting crickets), let me further help you out, Mozart. I think maybe you are tripping over definitions.

Morality is by definition an absolute concept. That is just a fact. We can argue WHETHER moral truth is or is not a valid concept, but we cannot argue whether it is absolute or relative. Absolutism is part and parcel of its definition. Without an authoritative lawgiver, morality is a difficult position to defend.

Cultural morays and values certainly are relative, obviously. Those are simply the individual (or corporate) human concepts of right and wrong and are relative to many factors. However, the absolutism still creeps in - in that there is a common acceptance that the concept of right and wrong is a valid concept. To me, without an authoritative moral lawgiver, you have no warrant to even impose the concept of rightness or wrongness. In a purely material and deterministic world, right and wrong are nonsensical concepts and should be rejected.

If you want to understand the logical out-workings of amorality vis-à-vis an atheistic paradigm, Nietzsche is in my mind the most honest atheist that ever existed. I believe he rather nicely lays out in logical fashion the out-workings of atheism. Others have too, but he's a good start.

I promise I'm done and I think Obama looks nice in the tan suit... good summer look.

At 1:35 PM, Blogger Mozart1220 said...

All this time and you have never "defined" morality.

WHY?

BECAUSE YOU CAN'T. It's completley subjective, like asking "Who's the best lead guitarist in rock n roll?" or "Whos the best actor?"

Here's the thing about "morality" and religion...

I'm an ATHEIST (At least Agnostic) but I'd rather have MY taxes go to feed hungry children than to build war machines. I don't care if the parents are "lazy" or simply unfortunate. That part can be addressed, but it's not my call, just feed the kids. I'd rather MY taxes go to building schools, paying police and fire departments, building roads, etc. than to subsidies for billion dollar oil and drug companies. I'd like EVERYONE to have access to proper health care. Yes, we as a nation have the money for that.

Guess who the "Christian" right supports? (Hint, they don't agree with me.)

And the best, most recent example was the tens of thousands of frightened hungry children that showed up at our Southern border looking for escape from HORRIBLE conditions in their home country. I not only would have fed them, housed them and provided medical care(Again, we as a nation have PLENTY of money) but my wife and I, who have a tiny house and don't make $30,000 between us offered to take one or two into our home, not even asking for any government help if available.(Our GOP Govornor threatened to charge anyone who did with harboring fugatives)

Our "CHristian" conservatives showed up at the border with torches and pitchforks. Fox news called it an "invasion" and claimed they would bring diseases (they even mentioned Ebola even though there is none in central America)

Conservatives want everyone carrying guns, cry for war at the slightes provocation and have blocked our President at every effort to help the poor and middle class of THIS country.

WHO'S "MORAL"?

Now watch as Anonymous comes up with anecdotal incidents where "liberals" do things he doesn't approve of, and Harley comes back with nonsensical vague concepts that have nothing to do with reality.

COnservatives, who CLAIM to own Jesus, are all about GUNS, and GREED.

Who would Jesus shoot, and what did he say about the rich?

Yes, as an Atheist I can iinvoke Jesus. One does not have to believe in all the supernatural hokus pokus to realize that whoever wrote the stuff about Jesus had the right idea. If ONly conservative "CHristians" would put down the OLD testement and actually read the Juesus stuff in the new.

INstead of getting together and making our country stron, they'd rather nitpic the President's wardrobe and WHINE about him using teleprompters or playing golf to get a few hours relief from what is certainly the toughest job in the world. It's not like he's REALLY "off duty".

Oh, and teleprompters, don't forget them.

I dont care what color of suit the President wears tonight, I just want him to address the fact that the NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll found that 47 percent of Americans believe the country is less safe now than before the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks on New York and Washington. That’s more people feeling unsafe than even a year after 9/11 when just 20 percent felt that way.

Hopefully, all who read and post here will not be working the evening shift tonight at their well paying jobs at the local provider of fast food created under Obama and we can have a fact filled discussion tomorrow on what the President REALLY said vs. what we are told he said.

Maybe what he says will make more Americans feel they are as safe as they were a year after 9/11.

"It's completely subjective"

First, that is an absolute truth claim you realize. Very objective, leaving no room for subjectivity. You won't even allow me to say it's objective. But, wait, that's my opinion and I'm the subjective agent, so it has to be allowed. But, wait.. that makes no sense... ooohhhh..... crap, this is confusing. It's almost like it's illogical or something...

Second, ok, it's subjective. I say it is right to shoot the children as they come across the border. So, morality (being completely subjective) will unfortunately have to allow for my opinion. I'm ashamed of you Mozart for holding to your own version of morality... really, shooting innocent kids for coming across the border. You're despicable!

At 5:59 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

By the way, for the record, I don't support shooting the children at the border. You never know who might not get it...

I said that conservatives went down there shouting obscenties and insults (which the kids didn't understand any way, but they understand angry shouting)and insisting they "go back where they came from"

I'm sure that if the truth be told YOU supported sending them away as well)

And yes, it IS an absolute FACT that morality is "subjective", as no two people have EXACTLY the same "moral values" just like the term "family values" is subjective.

But doesn't it sound good in a political ad?

Joni Ernst is saying she has "Iowa values" but never defines what those are. I was born and raised here, and lived most of my life here, but I guarantee you that she and I do NOT share the same "values".

Harlet, I asked you some simple questions and you avaoided the,m all. You have done nothing but call me stupid while posting inane rants about "morality being absolute" which it clearly is not. NO TWO PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME MORAL VALUES. Therefore it is "subjective".

How does pointing out that simple fact make me "childish"?

Typical condescending conservative. When faced with facts, resort to insults.

Oh, and "The rest of us"...

WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE THE PRESIDENT DO?

like "the rest of conservatives" you critisize without providing alternatives. That is called "WHINING". No matter what Obama proposes you like all conservatives will be against it.

I thought it was "unAmerican" to critisize the president. That's what Fox news said repeatedly when Bush was in office.

Hypocrite.

I would think that you of all people would be rallying behind the President as he at long last address the threat to America and it's citizens. I am not fan of Obama, but last night was the first time since he took office that I felt he was responding to what concerned the majority of Americans.

Even though Obama is using the 2001 Authorization to Use Military Force, which in a speech a year ago he vowed to work with Congress to repeal, I am glad he was able to look past past this error and follow the path of all our Presidents in taking the defense of American seriously.

It is a shame that, if this blog is any indication, Obama's base supporters didn't watch his speech or do not agree with his speech and can not bring themselves to admitting same. It must be difficult for a man who was awarded the Noble Peace Prize, to now declare war on ISIS. It must be more difficult for his base to support him now.

Mozart,

If morality is subjective, then why is it wrong for me to (as you say) insult you? What if my morality allows for that? Where do you get off telling me what to do?

Where do you get off telling someone else not to "criticize without alternatives"?

Why are you trying to impose your morality on everyone else? That would seem to me to be bigoted and selfish. Are you a closet conservative?

You have the right to say what you want, but it's not "immoral" to insult me, it's unneccesary and it demeans YOU more than me, because I can choose to laugh it off as I do. I ask YOU or Anonymous questions and I get nonsensical mumbo jumbo from you and childish mockery from Anonymous. NEVER a straight answer like an ADULT.

If you had the facts you'd present them without the NEED to call me "stupid". We could debate respectfully.

If morality were absolute, we'd all have the same values. We don't.

Saying that insults are not immoral is not going to get you off that easy. Ok, so how do you, then, judge Hitler's actions? Or a modern day white supremist's? They clearly are acting on their value systems and moral beliefs. Where do YOU get off judging them for what they do? Are you trying to force your morality down their throats?

Of course their actions are wrong - because morality is absolute. Whereas (as I explained to you earlier) values and beliefs are different - because some are RIGHT and some are WRONG. Which indeed is the substance of morality - what is right and what is wrong.

Sheesh, this is excruciating... I wonder if you are messing with me or if you really are this dull.

And, by the way, saying I gave you nonsensical mumbo-jumbo is an insult. So, you are no less a hypocrite than those you call hypocrite.

Enough with the lie about me not answering questions. I answered everything you asked, including your obsession with the congressman thing - which in case you aren't in tune with normal human sensibilities has GOTTEN VERY OLD

WHAT IS THE DEFINITION OF "MORALITY"?

You never answered, at least not clearly and honestly.

Is it "Moral" for two umarried people to live together and have sexual relations, given that they are NOT having children (and using "GASP!" birth control?

I say YES.

Are same sex relationships "moral" given that they are monogomous?

I say YES

WHY? They are happy in their relationships and do no one any harm.

Here's betting you disagree with both situations.

Therefore, MY "moral values" are different than yours, and therefore morality is SUBJECTIVE.

Who made YOU the keeper of all morality?

No two people have the same "moral values",not even within the same family. Once again...SUBJECTIVE. It's like trying to define "Normal" It's "normal" for me to sit down with a big bag of potato chips when I'm reading a book. Here's betting that would NOT be "normal" for everyone.

SUBJECTIVE.

Now we can go back and forth till the world ends, and it will STILL be SUBJECTIVE.

Yet another false accusation from the Troll. Yawn.

BOTH of you "are clearly at home in the world of cognitive dissonance."

Chuckie has no idea what cognitive dissonance is. Obama is an “Imperial President”… on health care, but going to war over the murder of two journalists is fine. Now THAT is cognitive dissonance.

Like I said, "Nothing to contribute but trolling, disruption, and hate spewing. Harley nailed his behavior as sophomoric, as in pretentious or juvenile. Not to mention dishonest.

Reasoned adult conversation is out of the question for a propagandist and hate-monger like Chuckie and his fake "crew".

Oh, right, Chuckie supports another war in Iraq. Duh. That should work out about as well as the last one. History teaches NOTHING to war lovers. War profiteers know this.

And war mongers know how to whip up war fever. Remember just before Bush invaded Iraq? Propaganda had duped 70% of Americans into believing Saddam had something to do with 9-11.

Now Americans will push for war over the murder of two journalists. Never mind the far greater number of journalists killed by Bush’s war for crony profit and political gain in Iraq. Never mind how many more will die in the next futile effort to control the Middle East. More cognitive dissonance there.

Liberals want Obama to be different from Clinton/Bush. It won’t happen, of course. As I’ve stated, the chief executive of a corporatist/militarist empire and police state can only follow the program. He cannot be liberal, and he cannot say, “No”, to war and the surveillance state. He would be dead otherwise. He would find his own Dealy Plaza waiting.

At 3:36 PM, Blogger Dave Dubya said...

Say, now that Chuckie agrees with Obama on something, will he agree to raising taxes on the rich war profiteers in order to pay for it?

The strategy that works every time:

All that we have to do is to send two Mujahedin to the farthest point East to raise a piece of cloth on which is written al-Qa’ida in order to make the generals race there to cause America to suffer human economic and political losses without their achieving for it anything of note other than some benefits to their private companies… So we are continuing this policy in bleeding America to the point of bankruptcy. --- Osama bin laden

Remember when the Right used to lecture, "We need to listen to what the enemy says"?

At 7:01 PM, Blogger Dave Dubya said...

"He cannot be liberal, and he cannot say, “No”, to war and the surveillance state…"

The above along with black helicopters, 911 being an inside job, AIDS and crack cocaine being created to kill the black man are the beliefs of the deranged minority radical far left in America.

Now we see proof of what I’ve been saying. The far Right Cult is indoctrinated into believing liberals actually think what the cult says they think. Does Chuckie cite anything to support his false accusations? Never, liars needn’t be bothered with facts.

In fact, the militia gun nuts are the ones afraid of UN black helicopters coming to take their guns. None of the rest of Chuckie’s false accusations rings of any truth.

Note what goes completely ignored and un-refuted.

“He cannot be liberal, and he cannot say, “No”, to war and the surveillance state.”

I would add that Obama cannot say “No” to corporate written trade agreements, either. This is reality in the present. The rest was conjecture, not presently factual.

However, Chuckie’s hate and dishonesty, are as real as it gets.

And who gets to pay for all the wars that Chuckie wants? Better cut taxes for the rich again, right? That “fixed” everything the last time, right?

He understandably flees from that one.

“Deranged minority” is his usual projection. A symptom of Obama Derangement Syndrome all the way. Chuckie has no idea what cognitive dissonance and projection are. Obama is an “Imperial President”… on corporate friendly health care, but going to war over the murder of two journalists is fine. Now THAT is cognitive dissonance.

Unlike Chuckie’s war heroes Bush and Cheney, at least Obama has real reasons to act, wisely or unwisely. Obama didn’t have to make up lies about WMDs, “nukular” aluminum tubes, and Saddam being in cahoots with al-Qaeda. Imperial presidents lie us into war for crony profit and political gain.

His is the hate that fuels fascism.

Dave, it's obvious that some here are deep within "the bubble".

Crack cocaine WAS invented by the CIA, not to "kill the Black man" but to track it's path so as to try and catch drug dealers. Like Bush's "Fast and Furious" it got away from them. Go figure. That's OK though, they just blamed the gun thing on Obama, and manditory minimum sentencing made sure that Blacks got stiffer sentences than WHites (Blacks use more crack, Whites use more powder. Crack has a stiffer sentence than powder. )

Are you opposed to what the President said last night that he wanted to lead American into doing? Then be a man and say so. Do you support the President or not his actions as Commander in Chief

Instead you go on some crazed rant about Obama being forced to do something our of a fear for his life and when called out on, you dive into an attack on the only person who has asked serious questions about his speech on Tom's blog. Surely you are smart enough to engage in a conversation without making it a hate filled political one?

Let's try this one final time. Clinton, Bush 1, Bush 2 all got the approval from Congress to engage our military in a conflict that would last more that 60 days. The Obama State dept has said this action against ISIS could last past Obama's term in office
Do you think Obama should ask Congress for their approval and do you think they will give it?

Mozart, do you have any proof to support you claims? If not, find some and share with us.

Maher vs. Charlie Rose: To Claim Islam Is Like Other Religions Is Naive And Plain Wrong

Bill Maher clashed with Charlie Rose over Islam during an appearance on Rose's Bloomberg Television program this week. Maher, the host of Real Time on HBO, scoffed at Rose's numerous attempts to link Islam to Christianity and to try to disavow radical Muslims as representatives of the religion. Rose contended numerous times that "moderate Muslims" do not approve of the actions of radical groups like ISIS. Maher noted Muslims when polled overwhelmingly agree with ideas like killing those who leave Islam and stoning adulters. Rose said the Koran does not teach Muslims to do "these kind of things." Below is a transcript of their conversation:

BILL MAHER: I saw Howard Dean on TV the other day and he said something along the order, he said the people in ISIS -- he said I'm about as Islamic as they are, you know, distancing the vast numbers of Islamic people around the world from them. That's just not true.

CHARLIE ROSE: It is true.

MAHER: It is not true, Charlie. There is a connecting tissue between --

ROSE: Behind every Muslim is a future member of some radical?

MAHER: Let me finish.

ROSE: I was doing that.

MAHER: There are illiberal beliefs that are held by vast numbers of Muslim people that --

ROSE: A vast number of Christians too.

MAHER: No, that's not true. Not true. Vast numbers of Christians do not believe that if you leave the Christian religion you should be killed for it. Vast numbers of Christians do not treat women as second class citizens. Vast numbers of Christians --

ROSE: I agree with that --

MAHER: -- do not believe if you draw a picture of Jesus Christ you should get killed for it. So yes, does ISIS do Khmer Rouge-like activities where they just kill people indiscriminately who aren't just like them? Yes. And would most Muslim people in the world do that or condone that? No.

ROSE: No.

MAHER: But most Muslim people in the world do condone violence just for what you think.

ROSE: How do you know that?

MAHER: They do. First of all they say it. They shout it.

ROSE: Vast majorities of Muslims say that?

MAHER: Absolutely. There was a Pew poll in Egypt done a few years ago -- 82% said, I think, stoning is the appropriate punishment for adultery. Over 80% thought death was the appropriate punishment for leaving the Muslim religion. I'm sure you know these things.

ROSE: Well I do. But I don't believe --

MAHER: So to claim that this religion is like other religions is just naive and plain wrong. It is not like other religious.

I can't believe Bill Maher is finally pulling his head out of his progressive asshole! Just Say'n!

So, Mozart

What's funny is you accuse me. "Who made YOU the keeper of all morality". Then turn around and say that Hitler was evil. So, who made YOU the keeper of all morality? By what warrant do you give yourself a pass to usurp Hitler's subjectivity?

Morality for you is what Mozart wants it to be. For Hitler, objectivity seems to creep in - you say "clearly, what he did was evil." But, it is not evil by your definition of morality. For him and thousands who followed him, it was the right thing to do. In a subjective construct, his belief must rule. For you to judge him, you are saying there IS a morality that transcends(ed) his subjective belief system. Are you not?

For somebody who is so mangnanimous that he allows for subjective morality, you are awfully judgmental and harsh towards those who don't see eye to eye with you.

By the way, I don't claim to be the keeper of all morality. I claim that the God who created you and me is the keeper of morality. You, on the other hand, in fact HAVE proclaimed yourself the author of you own version of morality. It in your mind is authoritative so far as your own actions and thoughts are concerned.

Metaphorically, you aren't on the ropes. You have fallen out of the ring and are lying loopy on the floor and don't even know it. It would be cruel for me to continue. While I doubt the REAL Harley actually took the time to check the definition of a word, I'll accept his apology anyway.

Turns out I was 100% right about morality.

No two people have the same "moral" or "family" values.

That is a FACT and not my opinion. Therefore, it has nothing to do with me.

I have MY "moral values" and harley has his, and I'd bet all the money in MY pockets against all the money in Harley's pockets that if the truth be told, this Atheist has "values" closer to those attributed to Jesus than he does.

At 1:34 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I don't know Mozart, maybe you do have values closer to Jesus than me. Let's check...

"Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets"

- Matthew 22:36-40

I'm guessing atheists have a minor problem with the what Jesus considers the greatest commandment.

By the way, are you responding to what I write, or are you making up answers to a conversation we're not actually having? I have to admit, you fascinate me. It is like passing by a crash scene - I can't take my eyes off, though everything in me says I should... "Are you responding to what I write, or are you making up answers to a conversation we're not actually having?"

Do you mean like how you claimed I'd shoot kids at the Border or thought Hitler was "Moral"?

Here's how I'm closer to Jesus of the Bible than most conservatives.

I would have fed, housed, and given healthcare to the tens of thousands of frightened children that showed up at our borders. Most conservatives called them "invaders"

I want my taxes to go to feeding the hungry and housing the homeless. Most conservatives call that "Socialism" but have no problem handing BILLIONS in subsidies to huge corporations.

I think the rich are killing this country while blaming the poor for all our problems. DO you?

Check Matthew 19:24

I said that the words ATTRIBUTED to Jesus MINUS THE SUPERNATURAL MUMBO JUMBO are pretty good.

Your move, chief.

For trying to convert a Muslim DEATH. For being gay...DEATH, for being a woman who is raped, prison or death.

Moderate Muslims find honor killing perfectly OK, and honor killings are always against women.

Woman can't drive in supposedly moderate Saudi Arabia, and can't leave their homes unless with a male relative.

Moderate Muslims treat women little better than COWS.

What other religion in the world today behaves that way? NONE!

ISIS is just displaying a little tougher edge to its form of Islam, but when it tells Christians they have to pay a tax they can't afford, convert to Islam, or die they are following the Koran.

Meanwhile folks like Obama and Sec of State Kerry and other whack jobs with the liberal disease, pretend that Islam is something that it isn't. They wear Politically Correct blinders and ignore the violence against women, and gays, and others.

That is Moderate Islam folks.

The Progressive never looks at the hard work Timmy put in to get where he is at. They state "Timmy didn't do that". His bus driver did. And no one ever points out the bus driver was paid to drive Timmy to school and that was the bus driver's job.

Dave likes to party. Never really studied in high school. Plays lots of video games, loves facebook and twitter. Went to college but flunked out and ends up with a shitty job at the Prison.

And one day Dave runs across Timmy and thinks, "Man I deserve Timmy's life". No one tells Dave...."Well Dave, you really didn't earn Timmy's lifestyle. You goofed off in school, didn't really study, didn't really apply yourself". What the government tells Dave is that you are a "victim". Timmy is oppressive and evil and greedy. And "the rest of us" my statement has nothing to do with Pelosi, but if she did say that she's right on the money.

The Middle east only differs from GOP heaven in the way we punish crimes. override of a veto - The process by which each chamber of Congress votes on a bill vetoed by the President. To pass a bill over the president's objections requires a two-thirds vote in each Chamber.

There are 36 U.S. Senate seats up for election in 2014. Of those seats, 15 are currently held by Republicans and 21 are held by Democrats.

Currently the GOP has 45 seats. So even if they won all 21 seats held by Democrats in November, they would not have two thirds of the Senate.

Its not my fault you don't know how the government works but lecture others that they don't.

The GOP only has 45 Senate seats. There are 36 seats in the Senate up for reelection this November.

15 of the those seats are GOP, 21 are Democrat.

If the GOP holds all 15 seats and wins all 21 seats held by the Democrats, they will have a total of 66 seats.

The GOP will not have the necessary 67 votes to "write whatever legislation they want and override any presidential VETO."

It least you have learned something Mozart about how the government works. Your attempt to distort and twist what you wrote is very childish. Only Dave Dubya is more childish than you when it comes to lying. But then again, your President constantly lies, since lying is a subjective term.

Then it nourished essays by pet journalists trumpeting the decline of al-Qaeda.

Disturbing memos that confounded that narrative were not released.

“On the run” was dropped after the 2012 election, when events on the ground made such an assertion absurd.

Then there is another sort of untruth summed up best as blame-gaming — “They did it, not me!”

The president confessed to having no strategy to deal with the Islamic State. But that was the fault of the Pentagon for not yet formulating any.

The Islamic State had crept up on us — and that was the fault of the intelligence services.

The world is in chaos? The new social networking — the much-bragged-about hip keystone of Obama’s two election campaigns — is to blame for making the gullible believe the world is falling apart.

The president had to remove every last soldier from Iraq — but he didn’t really do that; it was either Bush or Maliki.

The president ignored his own red lines in Syria? But they weren’t his own: The U.N., not he, made them.

The president dubbed the Islamic State the jayvees? No, he actually meant an array of groups.

And I am not surprised that you believe in "Global Warming" even though the US had one its coolest summers on record and the North is already getting heavy snowstorms.

And local US temperatures reflect the “globe”, right?

No. Not at all. But let’s look anyway.

Global Highlights

The combined average temperature over global land and ocean surfaces for July 2014 was the fourth highest on record for July, at 0.64°C (1.15°F) above the 20th century average of 15.8°C (60.4°F).
• The global land surface temperature was 0.74°C (1.33°F) above the 20th century average of 14.3°C (57.8°F), marking the 10th warmest July on record.
• For the ocean, the July global sea surface temperature was 0.59°C (1.06°F) above the 20thcentury average of 16.4°C (61.5°F), tying with 2009 as the warmest July on record.
• The combined global land and ocean average surface temperature for the January–July period (year-to-date) was 0.66°C (1.19°F) above the 20th century average of 13.8°C (56.9°F), tying with 2002 as the third warmest such period on record.

So what really happened in “the North”?

January was a warm month for the state of Alaska. A persistent ridge of high pressure set up across the state during much of the month. This weather system pumped warm and moist sub-tropical air into the state, keeping temperatures above normal. The statewide average January temperature was 14.8°F above the 1971-2000 average, marking the third-warmest January in the 96-year period of record.

So what really happened in the lower 48?

The average temperature for the contiguous U.S. during summer (June-August) was 71.7°F, 0.3°F above the 20th century average.

The saddest part is that there is no medication for Chuckie to take to cure his RRBC Kool-ade delusions, probably due to Chuckie being a science-denying idiot who probably thinks the Earth is 6 thousand years old.

There Are Now 52 Explanations For The Pause In Global Warming

Pick one.

At 5:44 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Satellite imagery reveals an area of about 20 million square kilometres covered by sea ice around the Antarctic continent.

Jan Lieser from the Antarctic Climate and Ecosystems CRC said the discovery was made two days ago.

“This is an area covered by sea ice which we’ve never seen from space before,” he said.

“Thirty-five years ago the first satellites went up which were reliably telling us what area, two dimensional area, of sea ice was covered and we’ve never seen that before, that much area.

“That is roughly double the size of the Antarctic continent and about three times, four times the size of Australia.”

The formation of sea ice around Antarctica every year is one of the biggest seasonal events on Earth.

The ice is generated in what scientists refer to as “sea ice factories” or polynias; areas of the ocean surface where currents and wind patterns combine to generate sea ice.

“As soon as sea ice is produced in these polyniers it is actually transported away from that so more sea ice can be produced,” Dr Lieser said.

Former Vice President Al Gore references computer modeling to suggest that the north polar ice cap may lose virtually all of its ice within the next seven years. “Some of the models suggest that there is a 75 percent chance that the entire north polar ice cap, during some of the summer months, could be completely ice-free within the next five to seven years,” says Gore.

That was in 2008, the same year that Cairo Egypt got it's first snow fall in 100 years. Let's see now, the models predicted this to happen ,but it hasn't so we should be super smart and continue to believe and trust these models. Models that were wrong.

There's a pause? A pause in what, again? Is there something that was interrupted by a pause? What could that be?

So, what does this alleged "pause" look like? What was happening before this pause?

Would that be like the "pause" between financial collapses, due to con-servative deregulation, corporate "free speech" from corporate "persons", and huge tax cuts for the rich?

Perhaps more pollution and deregulation will fix everything, like it HAS NEVER done.

Better not pause and think, just react and deny.

Yes, that's how to react without thinking.

Since Chuckie is listening to Dr Jan Lieser, lead author of the ACE CRC report, then he knows Lieser said, "The increase in sea ice is consistent with the changes in a warming world.

The sea ice is sitting at the interface of the ocean and the atmosphere, and so it gets a double-whammy effect. We actually understand the physics of this quite well. It is because of the warming that we can see the sea ice increasing at the moment."

Oh, dear. Chuckie's source has strayed from his little bubble cult.

First of all your comment Dave, is pure B.S because it is based on conjecture and assumption that deregulation and pollution have caused the warming of the earth. You reject other reasons for, if it is true, it's warming.

Examples of other sources for warming could be the activity of the sun and volcanoes. But since global warming has been framed by liberal socialism, as exampled by your comment, the only solution would be to increase the power of government. The wet dream of liberals socialist everywhere.

So you see Dave, you are only concerned about the climate of the earth as it relates to a political position, IE Big Gov, and it growing larger.

Of course the failure of the ice caps to melt as predicted by the climate expert Al Gore, has been ignored by you Dave as, (should I say it?), an inconvenient LIE.

Now there he goes again with more indoctrination.

False, but that would be better than to increase the power of corporate "free speech" money over our former government of, by, and for the people.

MOST liberals want LESS government power regarding the horrendous drug war and Bush/Obama surveillance and police state.

Alas, his cult forbids him to understand this, just as it forbids all reasoned understanding of differences. It forbids science. It forbids democracy. I could go on...

Because LEGAL drugs are harder to get. Ask any kid. They can get illegal drugs from anyone, and those peole don't care who they sell it to because they are already criminals in the eyes of the law. You won't find pharmecists selling LEGAL drugs to children ( Of course people like Rush Limbaugh or Michael Jackson can bribe doctors for prescriptions, but that's another debate) or a liquer store owner pushing Vodka in teenagers. WHY? BECAUSE THAY ARE LAW ABIDING CITIZENS RUNNING A LEGITIMATE BUSINESS)

Marijuana is NOT addictive like alcohol or tobacco. It DOES have medicinal uses unlike the other two. Our prisns are full of people who's ONLY "crime" was smoking a bit of weed.

So WHY is pot illegal? Ask the corporate pharmacutical companies. Why should they allow us to frow something natural and reletively harmless (smoking anything is not good, but pot can be eaten) in our backyard when they can make BILLIONS selling us toxic chemicals?

USS Obama is Sinking

The rising clamor over the beheading of two Americans, and rapidly sinking polls, forced President Obama to reassure the nation last week he had a plan to deal with the Islamic State. He did some of what he had to do, but only some, and so most military analysts believe the expanded airstrikes will not be a sufficient match for the size and weaponry of the terrorist army.

They miss the point. The disjointed speech wasn’t really about terrorism and launching a new war. It was about saving Obama’s presidency.

He is sinking fast and could soon pass the point of no return. In fact, it may already be too late to save the SS Obama.

The whole second term has been a string of disasters, with the toxic brew of his ObamaCare lies, middling economic growth and violent global breakdown casting doubt on the president’s stewardship. Six years into his tenure, nothing is going as promised.

Even Michael Moore has said that he will only be rememembered as the Black Guy.

Earlier on, he could have trotted out his teleprompters and turned public opinion his way, or at least stopped the damage.

But the magic of his rhetoric is long gone, and only a few people like Dave Dubya and Mozart on Tom Degans blog still get tingles in their loins when Obama speaks.

You know James, it doesn't matter if it's cut and paste or post original content, the response from liberals like you is always the same.

You either ignore what was said, as exampled by this post of original content
"What's your take on female genital mutilation? Or pedophilia? People are already doing it, we can't stop it so lets pay for it to be done safety with tax dollars."

or the post is misunderstood totally on purpose like this:

"Yeah, they people feeding Gore info were not 100% correct."
When did Gore admit that? I must have missed it. Do you know of any other info fed to Gore that was not 100% correct?"

But mark my words, there is not shortage of party line B.S. from liberals who when ever they are stumped, roll out this tripe:

Blame Bush, Bush Lied thousands died, its the Koch Brothers, its the corporations, it's the Tea Party, it's Limbaugh, you are a racist because you
(fill in the blank), the GOP hates the poor, or wants to keep them poor, conservatives worship wealth, GOP war on women, conservationism is a cult, Fox News, and Blame the Black guy.

Don't you think its' time for liberals to start with some of their own original posts, or are you ok with repeating the party line, and blaming someone for your failures?

You know what will the next big thing from liberals? An attack on the NFL. It will be more forceful than their defense of America as exampled by their wanting our borders secured and our laws on illegal immigration enforced.

BTW, Seven (7)Weeks until the mid term elections. Have you early voted twice yet?

Dave -

If we legalized everything, there would be no "crime" by definition. But there would still be crime against humanity. So, you can legalize it, but not legitimize it. I can't say for sure there's no woman whose mind is so degraded as to "enjoy" it, but I think I can safely say the VAST majority, if given other options, would not choose the lifestyle - even under "better conditions".

Prostitution is degrading to women - period. It is a degrading of human sexuality. It is a devaluing of their humanity and objectification of them as a piece of meat for men to use. My own personal sensibility is that I would hold the "John" far more culpable and I would severely punish the slave-trader (pimp) in the situation. I would treat the woman as a victim and seek help for her.

So, yes, utilitarianism would say put all pragmatic plans in place to make it "safe". But, that would be winning the battle and losing the war. The society we all seek is for people to experience loving relationships and to engage in meaningful vocations. I think prostitution is one area worth fighting to eradicate to elevate and protect women in our society. The degree to which prostitution thrives in any community/society I believe is a barometer of its health. We are damn near on our death bed...

The places they take themselves to. It boggles the mind. I remember a few years back when it was suggested we legalize Marijuana and Rush Limbaugh said "Well then why not just hand out heroin and needles on the playground to kindergartners". Hilarious.

But then when it comes to gun laws, conservatives say they are useless because criminals will still get guns. You smell that?

It's hypocricy again from the right.

Hey Tom. are you watching the Ken Burns Doc about "The Roosevelts" on PBS? As usual VERY well done.

Teddy Rossevelt is a Republican todays GOP NEVER snuggles up to. Must have been the "trust busting" and conservation efforts.

Billionaire Paul Allen co-founder of Microsoft is a supporter of stronger anti gun laws.
He donated $500,000 to a campaign seeking to expand background checks on gun sales in Washington state. He owns Soviet Scud surface-to-surface missile, a restored Soviet MiG-29 fighter jet, and is now trying to buy a NAZI WWII tank.

Gun laws are useless cause the wealthy liberals will still be able to afford weapons.

Does it concerns liberals when very wealthy people try to buy an election? Only if the wealthy person is a conservative would be my guess.

At 3:12 PM, Blogger Dave Dubya said...

Harley,

If we legalized everything, there would be no "crime" by definition.

Yes, But who is suggesting that? My questions were:

Would you say the prostitutes in legal settings would prefer to go back to alleys and pimps? And zero health care?

Would there be more or less crime and violence associated with prostitution if it were legal?

You don't have to address these, but they are fair questions. And the answers are out there.

It's kind of you to want to treat the woman as a victim and seek help for her. What "help" would that be? Mandatory religious classes? What if she doesn't want your help? Would she be free to decline? And what about the next offense? Time to crack down?

Again, you needn't answer, just consider.

If you feel the oldest profession is a "crime against humanity" that needs to be a law and order issue of crime and punishment, that is your prerogative. But you must understand this stems from your sense of religious morality that you wish to impose on others.

Cannabis users have long been persecuted for their politically incorrect choices and victim-less crime.

This is the same moralist, not moral, judgment that randomly tests competent and honest employees for drugs for no reason, and terminates them for indulging in weekend recreation. Just who is the real victim here? You probably agree that our bodily fluids are not covered as "personal effects", free from searches, under the Constitution.

This concedes enormous power to both government and corporate whims.

Perhaps you feel we should toss gays into prison too? Or maybe just "help" them with some backwoods Bible-thumping "pray the gay away" treatment? It doesn't work, but that won't stop the Religious Right from their crusade to condemn and control private behavior.

If people are not free to be "immoral" by the strictest religious standards, then they are not really free at all.

Theocracy, from the Inquisition, to Salem, to Sharia, has always been the antithesis to liberty.

Freedom of Religion is only free when there is also freedom FROM religion.

Like it or not, our public morality is framed by the law, not the Bible or Koran. It's sort of what America was founded on.

Time for Chuckie to freak out!

NASA Finds 2013 Sustained Long-Term Climate Warming Trend
NASA scientists say 2013 tied with 2009 and 2006 for the seventh warmest year since 1880, continuing a long-term trend of rising global temperatures.

With the exception of 1998, the 10 warmest years in the 134-year record all have occurred since 2000, with 2010 and 2005 ranking as the warmest years on record.

So is this what “liberal socialism”, aka science to the sane, has done? Obviously, to the science denying, ignorance and hate-mongering radical Right, this is all the sinister machinations of Al Gore and his conspiracy of evil climate scientists. They need to be corrected by the REAL experts like Chuckie, Rush and FOX(R).

Speaking of theocracy, the Tea Party and fundamentalist far Right have a few things in common with ISIS.

ISIS Bans Teaching Evolution In Schools

“Proud Liberal” asks:

Which group is:
Explicitly against homosexuality?
Explicitly anti-science?
Explicitly anti-evolution?
Explicitly anti-women’s rights?
Explicitly against other religions?
Explicitly for government based on their (and only their) religion?
Explicitly for the death penalty?
Explicitly for the use of or threat of violence to achieve political ends?
In love with their guns?
Anti-democracy?
Explicitly xenophobic?
Consumed by a hatred of Americans under President Barack Obama?
The answer is: Indisputably both.

But wait, Isn’t Islam inherently more evil and deadly than fundamentalist Christianity?
That depends on the time and place of course.
One question: If the Far Right succeeds in demonizing and scapegoating liberals, would they feel no qualms about making liberalism a capital offense, and take delight in executing liberals?

Depends on if you think we’ve made progress since Salem. Judging from all their hate, I’m not so sure.

Thank God they don’t have their theocracy. Let’s not give it to them, just to be sure.

True. But ANY codified legal code is a statement of morality that is to be imposed by the state onto its citizens.

The biggest false statement and myth that is perpetrated is "you cannot legislate morality". That is in fact EXACTLY what we do. Any law on the books goes back to a moral claim on some level...

As evidenced by the language in your latter post as well, it is disingenuous (sp?) to attribute religious person's sense of morality and proper governance to a lower level of epistemic legitimacy than a non-religious. All people determine their worldviews based on something and have the right to hold to them. The forced privatization of religiously held worldviews is arbitrary. Democracy is opinion based - the majority is no more legitimate than the individual. It just happens to be how we govern.

I think I see your point.

Sure, especially in the case when the majority holds a false belief or unjust position, and the individual holds the truth and fair position, but maybe not when legitimate is defined by only the law. Some laws are simply unjust, but still “legitimate”.

In a non-totalitarian system, the majority is by default more “legitimate” than the individual in determining a society’s customs, laws and mores. We don’t govern by democracy. We, ideally, decide elections by democracy. But we know that’s open to political or economic manipulation and corruption.

Legitimate in that it is no more moral or just...

The social contract theory of the Enlightenment boys still must have at is core some tip of the hat to an over-arching moral authority. Can't be avoided. What they were seeking to do, in essence, was to cast off the concept of a Divine or an absolute moral authority outside themselves and essentially take those reigns. And this they did. I fully understand that this is what informed our founders far more than Christianity (which draws ire from some of my friends who feel they were all devout Christians).

My main point, though, was that we ALL seek to impose our worldviews - our versions of reality/morality/justice - in a "democratic" process is by design. That mine is defined by Christian belief and Mozart's is defined by atheistic secular humanism should not matter. Thing is, Christians are NOT calling for a theocratic regime as they are often accused. Simply isn't true across the board. We simply advocate for what we feel would make our world a better place. No one has to agree. The rub comes because we hold to the position that God is our moral authority and does hold all of mankind to His standard. That is the reason Christianity is singled out as disallowed in our "enlightened" culture. That is the one belief that cannot abide, even in our "pluralistic" society. You see, mankind is evil in thought and in deed and hostile towards God generally. It is perfectly congruent with our natures, so I understand it.

At 11:03 AM, Blogger Dave Dubya said...

You see, mankind is evil in thought and in deed and hostile towards God generally.

This rather broad and dark general assessment would ignore all human love and compassion. We are both angels and demons by nature.

Christians included, right?

Various Christian groups have their differences on morality and interpretation of Scripture as well. Some believe in the death penalty, some do not, etc. There's still a lot Old Testament concepts of justice in some minds.

Yes, some Christians' idea of justice has killed innocent human beings along with the guilty. I can't see how they are more moral in this case than an atheist, or Pope, who opposes capital punishment.

Christians have also lied us into war, approved of torture, and incarceration of people without charges and counsel, as well. Moral relativism is not confined only to the world of atheists and agnostics, my friend.

So many, many Christians, quick to judge others, fail to see the beam in their own eye. They assume their beliefs alone give them a "get out of Hell free" card, no matter what harm results from their deliberate and cold-blooded actions.

An atheist with a conscience has a stronger moral code than a self righteous authoritarian "Christian" with no conscience.

That sort has all kinds of suggestions on "Who would Jesus kill?"

Hold on Dave,
I know of no Christian who insists on only Christian prayer, but the right to pray. What religion's prayer would you be happy with?

Moses was a historical figure, just as was Mohammed, having either in a history book does not form a theocracy.

As to our nations founders, what religion do you think they wanted the USA to be?

Would I be correct in saying Dave, that your bottom line is you want no religion in public view?

At 2:07 PM, Blogger Dave Dubya said...

I know of no Christian who insists on only Christian prayer, but the right to pray. (You aren’t looking
very hard. “Virginia Republicans Ban Opening Prayers from Pagans, Polytheists at Public Meetings” And please do tell us when the right to prayer was revoked.)

What religion's prayer would you be happy with? (None in government and public functions. It’s sickening enough when politicians wrap themselves in the flag, let alone religion. What did Jesus say about prayer in public?)

Moses was a historical figure, just as was Mohammed, having either in a history book does not form a theocracy. (So you’d be happy with Mohammed and not Moses in a public school textbook? Ha. No one said it “forms a theocracy”. It would most certainly be a feature of theocracy.)

Example:
“Moses was a lawgiver and a great leader. Like the founders of the United States, he helped establish a legal system to govern his people. The Ten Commandments have been a guide and basis for many legal and moral systems throughout the world.”

Yeah, Moses, a Biblical, not a historic figure, has no place in American history books. Ditto for The Ten Commandments. How old was Moses anyway? 120? And Noah? 950? Should that be public funded “American History” too? Where did the founders say that?

The Right Wing Republican Board of Education in Texas wants to convert history textbooks into ideological screeds.

More examples:
 Downplaying segregation as if it wasn’t that bad.
 Using alien cartoons to describe affirmative action as if those who benefit from it are less American.
 Discussing taxes in a negative way but never once mentioning Medicaid, Medicare, or Social Security.
 Democracy was inspired by the Old Testament, Moses, and the Ten Commandments.
 Muslims are violent but Christians never have been.
 Scientists disagree with what causes climate change and it’ll eventually even out anyway.

As to our nations founders, what religion do you think they wanted the USA to be? (Hare Krishna? Did they agree on something we don’t know about?)

Would I be correct in saying Dave, that your bottom line is you want no religion in public view? (Never said that. See above)

Now, when will Chuckie answer any questions? Ever?

Sample:

What did Jesus say about prayer in public?

At 2:59 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Dave,

A lot of stuff there and obviously too much for the forum - but would be fun stuff to discuss.

At the core, though, I don't hold to a "religious Right" construct. I don't think that just because a man (especially a politically-minded man) claims the cause of Christianity, that He has any part with Christ. I'm very skeptical in many ways and approach everything very fundamentally - and I find that the truth is always very congruent and coherent - not that I claim perfect knowledge always. Given that, though, it tends to make me iconoclastic, especially of much of what I find in modern American evangelical Christianity (of which I am a part). The Bible is in fact replete with warnings against wrong belief to the churches - often the impetus for Paul to write his letters. That is to say, it is not an institution of perfected individuals at all. So, some of your complaint against nominal and "so called" Christians has some validity - I won't argue with that at all.

Yes, we know all about "how it looks" to you. Nothing to do with reality.

And we note you you define calling out hypocrisy as "hatred of Christianity". Your tactic of any criticism of the Israeli Right as "anti-semitic" rings of a similar hollow and hateful stance.

If your hate and dishonest behavior reflects Christianity, then it is well deserved. Fortunately it does not; we know you are a servant of Mammon (more tax cuts for the rich, less food stamps for the poor)far more than you are a compassionate loving follower of Christ.

What did Jesus say about prayer in public?

Why do you flee from a simple question?

Are you afraid of His words? "Looks to me" and everyone else here, that you are.

Bwaack, buck, buck, buckaww!

That is the hypocrisy of the "so-called" Christians, Harley and I refer to.

At 11:05 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

"What did Jesus say about prayer in public?"

Hey Dave as the expert on everything and as the hall monitor of the internet, you should already know the answer to your question.
But,
He said do not pray to draw attention to your self but pray in a way that the attention is drawn to God, your Creator, who wants a prayer that reflects your relationship with Him. Now what has that got to do with anything you are trying to prove? You are assuming that any public prayer is done only to draw attention to the person praying! How do you know the hearts of the person praying? You don't.

Let's go a little further with you line of logic.

Should Muslim's be prevented from saying "allahu akbarin" in public, try to enforce that. How about taking Gods name in vain, should that be prevented? Should movies and tv shows bleep out the word "God" from their programs? Should all religious broadcasts be prevented by the "Get God out of View" crowd?

Are you Dave, afraid there might be a sinless God that you are accountable for to meet His standards? Do you Dave, view God as a limiter to the "greatness" that man can attain? Why are you afraid of a growth in Christianity? If you have the final answers and insight to all of the ills of mankind, why are you opposed to anyone disagreeing with you? What harm could those foolish Christians do to you, with your superior IQ and power of reasoning?
What do you believe is the sole purpose of mankind?

"Bwaack, buck, buck, buckaww?"

Simple questions Dave.

At 2:43 PM, Blogger Dave Dubya said...

Chuckie,

You didn’t answer my question.

This is the answer:

"When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.

So you fittingly choose to side with the hypocrites. No surprise.

You are assuming that any public prayer is done only to draw attention to the person praying! How do you know the hearts of the person praying? You don't.

Jesus knew, didn’t He? That is why He said what He said, isn’t it?

You once again falsely presume an assumption on my part. As I’ve stated numerously, keep your straw man out of this. Be a man and disagree with MY words, not the ones you expect or wish for me to say.

And again for the narrow minded and verbally challenged, I don’t care if someone prays in public. I don’t care if someone prays on the street, on a train, or even on a plane. We know it’s impossible for you to open your mind for just a millisecond and absorb that.

I just don’t think it is appropriate for government and civic functions. It insults and alienates atheists or those of other faiths. You neither get it, nor care. No surprise. You side with the hypocrites and keep your mind closed to anything but hate and falsehoods.

Stop assuming you know what I say or think. You know NOTHING other than what I convey in words. Words that you ignore and twist out of pure hatred.

Now what has that got to do with anything you are trying to prove?

That politicians and government officials wrap themselves in religion as well as the flag. And it fools the dupes who buy into it. Hint, hint.

Let's go a little further with you line of logic

What is my “line of logic”, pray tell? Your assumptions? Your straw men are not logical.

If you have the final answers and insight to all of the ills of mankind, why are you opposed to anyone disagreeing with you?

Speaking of assumptions…. You’ll never learn. Because my answers are more accurate and more honest than your hate spewing? I only oppose you when you lie, spew hate, and are obviously wrongheaded.

Keep at it, sport. It’s what you do. Any fool who thinks Republicans are going to do what’s best for anyone other than the rich is long lost to both reason and reality.

All that’s left is the hate.

You falsely and arrogantly assume and assign any evil imaginable to those who disagree with you. It is the scapegoating and demonizing applied by all fascists. Yours is clearly the hate that fuels fascism.

Period.
