SOME DARE CALL IT TREASON

Early this morning

"Mr. President, you're making a big mistake."

Senator Chuck Schumer
in a telephone call to the Donald

I made this little announcement on my Facebook page this morning:

"I've been fairly tolerant toward those who support this president - friends and strangers alike. From this moment on, if you insist on supporting this unhinged, common pervert, you're just too dense for rational dialogue."

Honestly, after all that has transpired in the last twenty-four hours, there's no more excuses for rationalization. We have placed in the most powerful office in the world an unhinged despot. The irony is the fact that things have turned out worse that even I dared to predict - and I'm a fairly cynical guy. You had to have been blind not to see how badly this was going to end. If Dick Nixon's infamous Saturday Night Massacre sealed his fate, what happened yesterday was the tolling of the bells of doom for the administration of Donald Trump. To paraphrase Churchill, this may not be the end, it may not be the beginning of the end, but it is most definitely the end of the beginning. It's all downhill from here for these people. Let the shit storm commence.

I was of two minds yesterday when I got the breaking news over the car radio that Mein Trumph had fired FBI director, James Comey. It was his bungling back in October that was more responsible than anything for this disgusting administration's very existence. Ten days before the election, when he made known that there was a new (nonexistent as it turned out) angle to Hillary Clinton's e-mail probe, a lot of people in middle America got severely spooked. But by all accounts he appeared to be sincere (or as sincere as it is possible to appear in Washington) in his desire to investigate what, if any, connection the 2016 Trump campaign had with agents of a hostile foreign government in influencing the outcome of the election. I think it is interesting to note here that the three independent players who have been investigating this president (Comey, Sally Yates, and Preet Bharara) have all been fired by him. I'm sure that's just a coincidence.

The most comically ironic thing of all is the initial reason Trump's minions gave for the firing: His mishandling of the Hillary Clinton the same "scandal" mentioned above. After nearly a year of praising Comey on this very point, das Trumpster now feels it his obligation to punish him. Then in an interview with NBC's Lester Holt, he admitted that is was all because of the inquiry into Russia. This is the gang that can't get its story straight.

Comey
I'm not making this stuff up!

I think it would be instructive to point out how completely politically tone-deaf the Trump Mob is: They seem genuinely surprised by the explosion of outrage that this latest blunder has caused. They apparently had no idea that the dismissal of the head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation could quite possibly provoke a constitutional crisis. Trump's letter to Comey, informing him that he was being sacked, is so side-splittingly transparent that one is tempted to weep for the complete idiocy of the man:

"While I greatly appreciate you informing me, on three separate occasions, that I am not under investigation,  I nevertheless concur with the judgment of the Department of Justice that you are not able to effectively lead the Bureau."

In other words: SEE, FOLKS? I'M INNOCENT! JIMMY COMEY SAYS SO!

If Trump is dumb enough to believe that the page has been turned and now this scandal will simply go away, he doesn't have the intellectual chops to be sitting in the Oval Office. Of course some of us have been saying this from the moment he announced his candidacy two years ago next month. Ain't hindsight a scream?

Mitch: The Plutocracy's Bitch
Now the Big Question: Will the senate agree to appoint a special prosecutor? My feeling is, if the vote were held this morning, they would not. The good news is that this nasty little affair is compounding by the hour. At this stage in the game, even some of the inmates of Idiot Nation are becoming alarmed by the obvious crimes and starling conflicts of interest connected to these corrupt assholes. Mitch McConnell has promised that he will obstruct any and every effort to secure a special prosecutor. I wasn't surprised to learn of this. Old Mitch is into this mess up to his eyeballs. Last September he made several desperate attempts to keep this scandal from seeing the light of day. I'm not sure what he's hiding, but I suspect we'll find out in due time. The walls are closing in for the gentleman from Kentucky as well.

Very soon the Republicans will be shamed into doing what common sense and decency should have made them do without even having to think about it. Very soon there will be no place left for them to hide. It seems to me that Donald Trump's administration is unraveling before our very eyes. It's crashing and burning, shattering into a trillion pieces. Life is beautiful.

I never dreamed things would get this completely weird. Isn't this fun to watch?

To paraphrase the classic Doonesbury:

“It would be a disservice to Mr. Trump and his character to prejudge the man, but everything known to date could lead one to conclude he’s guilty.

That’s GUILTY! Guilty, guilty, guilty!"

Obama should have fired him last year when he interfered with the election. Comey thought he was a "King Maker" but selected an incompetent nincompoop for the role of King. Truly, let's hope this is the beginning of the end. I fear that 45 will do something drastic (e.g. start a war? blow up something?) to avoid more scrutiny.

Keep up the good fight, Tom. I appreciate your humor and insight.

Sure, says the guy who has been predicting the end of the GOP for the past five years?

The same guy who allows posts stating that 9-11 was an inside job in his blog?

The guy who allows post's claiming 99% of tax cuts help only the wealthy on his blog without a question?

Haunt away, but the truth is liberals wanted Obama to fire Comey because they believe he helped President Trump to become President. Maxine Waters explains it best, LOL, on MSNBC https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gTwgbzu34c She will haunt liberals.

The Trump presidency has turned into a soap opera on steroids but with real life consequences.

All the Russian hysterics are meaningless to me but Trump is cannibalizing all the meaningful government agencies to enlarge an already obscenely enormous military.

Trump is turning into a despot and if he gets the time to enact all his policies we and the world will suffer.

Well Tom, I've always told you that I appreciated your tolerance in allowing a non liberal post here. I'll say it again, thanks Tom for supporting our right to free speech, unlike the liberals at UC Berkeley.

god I am exhausted from all this. Your rant reminds me why.
What a line this is: "Trump's letter to Comey, informing him that he was being sacked, is so side-splittingly transparent that one is tempted to weep for the complete idiocy of the man.."

I'm going to bed. Maybe when I wake up we'll be closer to impeaching this maniac.....

Chuck "Majormajor" Morre to Tom Degan: "[Says]the same guy who allows posts stating that 9-11 was an inside job in his blog?"

Gee!...it wasn't?!?

Sound evidence discovered and published since the fraudulent conspiracy theory put forth by the government's 9/11 Commission Report, reveals otherwise.

Was Trump threatening Comey on Twitter early yesterday morning? It would appear this president who was accusing the previous president of wiretapping, was projecting his own suspicions about a practice he's used to employing. Comey better watch out, or he'll end up in the East River like Kramer -- or in a cement footer of one of Trump's new hotels.

I never thought I'd live to see the Executive Branch of the United States government, and its so-called Justice Department, turn out to be the seat of organized crime.

On second thought, I saw it coming -- just not so overtly.

Tom,

Hillary lost the election because of James Comey. Its as obvious as 9/11 being an inside job. just say'n.

My only concern at the FBI is that now they may reopen an investigation into Hillary's email server. Only a Clinton can get away with destroying the evidence (bit bleaching the hard drives) after a subpoena was issued to hand over the hard drives. No one is better at destroying evidence than the Clintons. Just ask Vince Foster.

With Hillary in jail, she will not be able to run for President in 2020 and make us "Stronger Together" and achieve our vision of the first woman president.

I just love people like Clucky that STILL defend trump, as if they would not be OUTRAGED and calling for blood if a Democrat did the same thing.

I guess we can go to Clucky's house, kill his family and burn down his home. THEN we get to fire the cops and turn in a registered letter from our Mom's saying we didn't do it.

Case closed.

TRUMP HAS ALREADY STATED THAT THE JOB IS TOO HARD AND HE WANTS TO GO HOME.

HE "THREATENED" N. KOREA WITH A "MIGHT ARMADA" THAT WAS 2,000 MILES AWAY HEADING THE OTHER DIRECTION.

TWO NAVY SEALS DEAD, A COUPLE BILLION IN BOMBS DROPPED TREE DIFFERENT COUNTRIES
(ONE OF WHICH HE FORGOT). NO RESULT.

HE STILL WON'T SHOW HIS TAX RETURNS

HE INVITES RUSSIIA'S #1 SPY INTO THE WHITE HOUSE ALONG WITH A TECHNICAL CREW, BUT THE US PRESS IS BANNED

And Clucky is upset over a few college students acting like infants. Liberals admonish them to, champ, but the REAL issue was Colter not wanting to speak there in the first place. She just wanted to be turned down so she could go vomit all over Fox news.

Yeah, that's the important issue.

JG, have you noticed how gullible Conservatives are, some fossil fuel lobbyist pay Republican politicians to spout a lot of nonsense and bullshit and Conservatives believe it and will defend them to their dying breath.

Conservatives are the only group of people on the planet that believes GW is not happening.

Also a majority of people in this country and around the world now believe the Bush admin was complicit in some way with 9/11. Did you know that in the last 100 years of building steel frame skyscrapers that not a single building collapsed or lost a foot in hight due to fire? And there is a website that list every skyscraper fire around the world proving that.

Coincidentally, I wrote a blog post about this very subject awhile ago, which was a follow-up to a post even earlier.

I suggest you read any of David Ray Griffin's works on the conspiracy theory that was perpetuated by the U.S. government on a very gullible American public.

It seemingly, but not surprisingly, is. Trump is used to being the "mob boss" and having complete and total authority. He stupidly doesn't understand that in a democratic republic the checks-and-balances outweigh authoritarian control. For some peculiar reason he thought the firing of Comey would make all his troubles go away.

Some Washington insiders are advising staffers to "lawyer up", while getting ready for the inevitable push-back of scapegoating and deflection.

It's so reminiscent of the early 1970s -- except the music was much better back then. Stay tuned! It's going to get better...

If Hillary were in the oval office and directly gave the Russians classified ISIS information, like Trump did, then that can only mean, “Lock HER up!” Amirite?

It’s OK for Don the Con. Just ask conservatives and Republicans.

Damn that Hillary and her sour grapes! This HAS to be all HER fault.

I mean, let’s not lose perspective here. Emails! Benghazi!

All together, fellow conservatives, “Lock HER up! Lock HER up!”

Dave Dubya: "If Hillary were in the oval office and directly gave the Russians classified ISIS information, like Trump did, then that can only mean, 'Lock HER up!'"

Conservatives and Republicans would be ranting and raving, and foaming at the mouth, if it were a Democratic president who pulled the shenanigans this president has, and has legibly committed, in his days as president and before.

It seems one's interpretation of "high crimes & misdemeanors" can be very flexible -- dependent upon where one's loyalties lie -- which is exactly why there should be an independent inquiry.

Dave and JG, I absolutely agree. Lock Trump up and all of the other progressive politicians that want to make us a socialist "utopia" and ignore the rule of law as dictated by the constitution.

I look forward to a Pence administration with great hope accordingly.

T. Paine: "Well, at least we have one point of agreement JG! ;)"

Mr. Paine, although the outward appearances presented by the corporate mainstream media certainly make it seem reminiscent of those days when Nixon wanted to fire Archibald Cox in 1973, I truly believe there are other forces in play that are very powerful and very influential. We could, and unwittingly, be witnessing a real coup d'état to remove this president from office -- despite, and not hampered by, the boneheaded and miscalculated actions by this president to head it off.

Anticipating many other knee-jerk reactions by this president, I have a feeling the next scapegoat -- and unlucky one on the chopping-block -- will be Jeff Sessions.

These are strange and perilous times.

Thanks to Mr. Paine for my latest lesson on "how to think like a conservative".

What I've learned from today's lessons:

Lesson 1:
Trump is a progressive. Just like all the pro-regulation, anti-Wall Street, liberal environmentalists in his cabinet.

Lesson 2:
Only progressives act outside of constitutional rules. Example: George W. Bush is a progressive for violating our 4th Amendment and starting a war that would bring profit to his oily cronies. Bush also wanted to privatize Social Security, just like any other progressive.

I'm really excited to be a "conservative in training".

I'll know just what to say when they come to take socialist liberals away to Camp Trump, I mean Camp Bannon, just for wanting progressive change for the public, rather than corporate, interests.

Yes, that is Orwellian thought-crime, but who cares? Orwell was just another stupid socialist.

Wow. That really feels good to get out of my system.

Now I have to forget totalitarians are really conservatives who do not want ANY change that benefits the public over his well-connected cronies.

Wait a minute. I must amend that.

Lesson 3:
Totalitarians are really liberals who do not want ANY change that benefits the public over his well-connected cronies, like Trump, Cheney and Bush.

And as for Obama the Marxist Muslim and terrorist-loving foreigner? We have special words just for him, don't we, fellow conservatives?

I'm no fool. I don't want to go to Camp Trump, I mean Camp Bannon, especially with Hillary, simply for advocating for the public interest.

See? I'm learning to think like a conservative now.

Why don't we hear about how Trump is making America great? If they're so proud of him, why don't we hear a peep about how wonderful a job Trump is doing? Even Trump worshiper Ann Coulter is saying, "The Trump haters were right".

Everything Trump does is proof IOKIYAR. The Republican Party and con-servatives who enable it have no concern for the good of the country, only the rich and their favorite "corporate persons". They are self-righteous, religious hypocrites, bigots, greedheads and racists. They are unified by simple hatred of those they scorn, see as beneath them, and portray as liberal commies.

They have no ethics. They have no morals. They have no respect for government of, by, and for the people. They have no tolerance for dissent. They have no regard for the truth. And they have no basic human decency.

And the spineless corpo-dems are too much like them for our country to ever be great.

We are a nation of oblivious, self-centered, ignorant puppets of corporate America and Wall Street. We are indoctrinated to serve and even worship capitalism, as employed by the corporate economic elites. When anyone points out their god's failures, they are called commies.

AND, we have put Trump in the White House. What does that tell the world about America and their twisted corruption of what should be a democratic representative republic?

This is why this country is finished.

And the neo-fascist fools who support Trump will blame liberals and non-Trumpists for Trump's horrible desecration of our White House.

Say, when was it that Hillary emailed highly classified information to Russians? Lock her up. Oh, and Trump is a liberal. Yeah, that explains it all.

This country is getting what it deserves.

I read this paragraph in a story of how they are preparing Trump for a major foreign policy trip to the Mideast.

"National Security Council officials have strategically included Trump’s name in “as many paragraphs as we can because he keeps reading if he’s mentioned,” according to one source, who relayed conversations he had with NSC officials."

We are screwed biggly.
